The development of the “medical cluster” has good perspectives in the Smolensk Region. First, there is a large centre for traumatology, orthopedics, prosthetics, hospitals with unique experience, medical educational institutions which train doctors for Russian, CIS and foreign countries.
“Fresenius Medical Care” is completing the construction of haemo-dialysis centre. The representatives of “Fresenius Medical Care” think that the Smolensk Region looks attractive for investors due to a number of reasons. First, there is great demand in methods of renal replacement therapy. Aleksey Myagkov, the director of “Fresenius Medical Care” in Russia said that in 2011 the company supported the program of peritoneal dialysis for patients with chronical renal disease which helped the region to cope with the crisis situation and provided some time for the construction of a new centre. Second, the investment policy of the region is also important. The constructive and efficient cooperation between investors and authorities is based on the favourable investment climate in the Smolensk Region which encourages close interaction of business and administration in the form of public-private partnership.
Aleksey Myagkov added: “The construction of “Fresenius Medical Care” in Smolensk became possible only because of the effort taken by the regional and city authorities. The business atmosphere in the region can be described by two main characteristics: the constructive approach of the authorities and transparent investment policy ensuring equal conditions for all parties and stimulating fair competitiveness.
