Agriculture cluster may appear in Smolensk region

National Union of Beef Producers made a proposal for the establishment an agro-industrial cluster based on beef cattle in the territory of Smolensk region.

For the discussion of this possibility Administration of Smolensk region in conjunction with Corporation of investment development of Smolensk region organized a project office of regional farmers working in this field. The meeting participants discussed conditions and principles of creation of the cluster, as well as topical issues that affect the branch of beef and dairy cattle breeding.

During the meeting there was a presentation of a model of cluster development which was made by CEO of the National Union of Beef Producers Roman Kostyuk.

The model of development of rural areas through the creation of peasant and family farm-based cluster of meat production, developed by the National Union of Beef Producers, is currently being applied in other regions of the country. Nowadays the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation carried out the formation of the list of regional pilot projects for the introduction of a new format of cooperation in rural areas on the basis of beef cattle breeding. Inclusion into this list will give the regions the opportunity to obtain the necessary state support measures.

The company Miratorg has expressed the interest of including into the cluster, this company considers Smolensk region as one of the key regions for development of beef cattle breeding.

Earlier Corporation of investment development of Smolensk region signed a cooperation agreement with the National Union of Beef Producers in the framework of which provides creation of favorable conditions for investment activities, implementation of joint projects, food security in the region.

National Union of Beef Producers created in 2010. Currently, it includes more than 50 companies from 26 regions of Russia.
